Kanazawa City(Ishikawa Prefecture)

Kanazawa is the capital city of Ishikawa Prefecture and is located on the north coast of Central Japan. During the Edo Period the city prospered to be one of Japan’s leading cultural and economic hubs. Today its rich history can be experienced by visiting Kanazawa’s many historic districts and cultural assets.

Kanazawa’s most famous sight is Kenrokuen Garden. This garden is said to be one of the three most beautiful gardens in Japan and was awarded three stars by the Michelin guide. Visitors can enjoy the unique scenery of the Garden, which changes by the season.

In Kanazawa you can also experience the Samurai culture first hand. In Nagamachi Samurai District, you can experience the lifestyle of samurai from various ranks and see full-body armours, weaponries and many other samurai artifacts and belongings.

Kanazawa is also famous for its production of Gold Leaves. The city is behind nearly all of the gold leaf production in Japan, and you can make your own masterpiece by applying gold leaves to chopsticks or boxes.

Unwinding after a long day of sightseeing is easy, as there are many hot springs (onsen) in and out of the city. In and around the city are traditional inns where attendants dressed in Kimonos will serve you the classic Japanese way.
