IMG_0357Wednesday 23 July 2014 marked a significant day for the Lockyer Valley (Queensland), with Council signing an official agreement with Ageo City (Saitama prefecture).

Lockyer Valley Mayor Steve Jones and Ageo City’s Mayor Mr Minoru Shimamura were joined by other dignitaries and school children in the Lockyer Valley to sign the official document which links the two regions.

“We have built an amazing relationship with Ageo City and it is pleasing to sign the documents which ensure this friendship continues to grow and flourish in the future,” he said.

“For at least the past 30 years, a delegation has come to the Lockyer Valley every year and this has been a great opportunity to learn from one another.

“For more than 20 years, Ageo City has also sent school children who get to experience what life is like in the Lockyer Valley and representatives from their City who work with us on potential opportunities between our regions.

“During the same time period, and at Ageo City’s invitation, Council has been to their City twice, which has helped to develop and strengthen the relationship in the areas of our economies, education, culture, sports and tourism which will benefit the citizens of the regions for both now and the future.

“The signing of the agreement is a positive step forward in the relationship between the Lockyer Valley and Ageo City.”
