Sister Cities

JLGC supports and promotes international exchange and cooperation between local authorities in the Oceania and Japan.

The first Australia-Japan Sister City affiliation was formed between Lismore, NSW and Yamato-Takada in Nara Prefecture in 1963, while the first New Zealand - Japan Sister City affiliation was formed in 1973 between Christchurch and Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture.

:: SEEKING A SISTER CITY

- Sister City Affiliations Between Oceania and Japan -

JLGC supports and promotes international exchange and cooperation between local authorities in the Oceania and Japan.If you are interested in establishing a sister city link with a Japanese local government, you will need to submit the following documents to us.

1. A letter from your mayor

2. City profile with a list of items describing:
i) Population, area and geographical or topographical outline including access from the nearest international airport.

ii) Cultural, educational and commercial aspects with relevant facilities specified, special historical background if any.

iii) Specifications expected for the Japanese counterpart city or province.

iv) Types of sister-city or province exchange programs desired.

v) Officials or organisations of the council with authority to expedite the sister-city or prefecture matters.

vi) Other related matter


3. Pamphlet about your city
After you have completely and successfully registered with CLAIR, your council will be listed on our homepage registry in Japan and introduced in CLAIR Tokyo's newsletter. The newsletter is a monthly publication that is delivered to local government authorities throughout Japan.
