2004 ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS
CELEBRATING 20 YEARS OF FRIENDSHIP
PENRITH - FUJIEDA
Twenty years ago Penrith and Fujieda entered into a sister city agreement
where both sides pledged to ‘establish a lasting and friendly
relationship'.
Each year the commitment to the relationship and the bonds of friendship
that have been developed between the two cities on opposite sides of
the world have become stronger. 20 years is indeed a long time, and
during that time we have seen many changes to our world, but the one
thing that has never wavered has been the commitment to this relationship.
Like true friends everywhere, this relationship has focused on mutual
respect and a sense of fun and as we have learnt more about each other,
the affection and trust has prospered. Both Penrith and Fujieda have
remained flexible and tolerant to the differences in culture and as
a result have grown together over time. A range of cultural, educational
and sporting activities have taken place that have seen lifelong friendships
develop.
The original Penrith City Sister Cities Association and now the Penrith
International Friendship Committee (PIFC), is a group of hardworking
and dedicated community members who have been unwavering in their commitment
to the friendship between Penrith and Fujieda. Their input and contributions
have been the lifeblood of this relationship and one thing they all
have in common is that they do what they do because they enjoy it,
another secret to the enduring success of this sister city relationship.
* A series of special activities is occurring this year to mark this
special occasion of the 20 th anniversary of the signing of the Sister
City agreement.
* The production of a special 40 page full colour booklet to mark
the 20th Anniversary.
* An Anniversary Dinner and Exchange Student Reunion in July
* A Delegation to Fujieda by a Mayoral Delegation from Penrith City
Council members of the PIFC in early November to celebrate the 20th
Anniversary.
* A special Art Exhibition in Fujieda by artists from Penrith and
Western Sydney
* The commissioning of a special piece of music by the Joan Sutherland
Performing Arts Centre as part of the Anniversary Celebrations in Fujieda
* A visit by a Mayoral Delegation from Fujieda to Penrith in July
