2007 CLAIR Forum in Darwin

- Utilising Local Resources for Sustainable Tourism: Connect, Develop, Invigorate

The 13th Annual CLAIR Forum, held in Darwin in October 2007 was the first time for the Forum to be held in conjunction with the Australia Sister Cities Association Annual Conference and co-hosted by Darwin City Council..

The Theme of the CLAIR Forum was Utilising Local Resources for Sustainable Tourism: Connect, Develop, Invigorate.

CLAIR was pleased to be able to bring together local government practitioners, business leaders and community stakeholders to exchange views and experience on this important topic while also strengthening international relations at the local level.

Forum participants all agreed that local government has a vital role to play in promoting the sustainable use of natural resources and in working together with the community and business to promote sustainable economic, infrastructural and cultural development.

Each speaker gave examples of how they have developed sustainable tourism practices in their business. Participants commented that the information was very valuable and that it would held them to develop new policies and practises related to tourism in their own communities.
