A delegation from Kagoshima led by Kagoshima’s Mayor visited their sister city Perth to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their sister city relationship. Assistant Director, Mr Hiromi Hakuta attended the official ceremony and associated events from 11-13 August.
During their stay in Perth, they visited Mater Dei College to sign a Sister School agreement between Mater Day College and Gyokuryu High School in Kagoshima. Both schools started their exchange program in 2009.
At the official ceremony, attendees looked back over their 40 year-long relationship. The Lord Mayor of Perth also accepted the 2014 Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation on behalf of the City of Perth for promotion of mutual understanding between Japan and Australia.
At the welcome lunch for the visiting delegation arranged by the branch offices of Japan-affiliated business in Perth, guests had the pleasure of welcoming two former JET participants who worked in Kagoshima. We are delighted to know that there are some connections between sister city relationships and the JET Program.
