2013 Year of Tourism Exchange: Introducing Hiroshima

This month, we would like to introduce Hiroshima, the hometown of Ms. Misa Hirasawa, one of our new staff members.

Hiroshima Atomic Bomb DomeHiroshima Prefecture is located in the southwestern part of the Japanese islands. It is rich in the natural beauty of the Inland Sea and the Chugoku Mountains, with rivers, valleys, and plains that characterise Japan’s landscape.

厳島神社Hiroshima is famous for having TWO world heritage sites: the Itsukushima Shrine, and the Hiroshima Peace Memorial (Atomic Bomb Dome). They are only 20 km away from each other, so you can visit these famous spots during a short stay!

In addition to these popular tourism destinations, Hiroshima has one of the most popular cycling courses in Japan. The bridge between mainland Japan and the Shikoku region, called “Setouchi Shimanami Kaido”, is approximately 70km long, and can be crossed by bicycle. If you cycle across the bridge, you can feel the sea breeze, see the calm sea and beautiful islands, and feel a deep sense of relaxation.

Of course, you don’t have to worry about bringing a heavy bicycle – you can rent a bike from many places!
